02 Feb Fear of the Coronavirus fuels Discrimination Against Asian Uber Drivers and PAX
As I researched for content this past week I ran into a bunch of tweets and Facebook posts from drivers that stated that passengers asked them had been exposed to the coronavirus. What surprised more were the drivers that openly admitted to canceling on passengers that appeared to have “Chinese names”. That’s not speculation, people admitted to this. Bottom line, If you feel like you might contract the coronavirus driving for Uber or Lyft, you shouldn’t drive period. Going outside might be the next thing on your list as well. And i hope Uber and Lyft remove you from the platform for not extending the inclusive environment we are benefiting from.
The boldy ignorant comments on this video just goes to show why it’s important to discuss this topic openly. One commenter went as far to share how helps his drivers determine Chinese characters so they can determine who’s most likely to be from China. Huh? No thought given to American citizens or people that live here that use characters.
